galentine's day

One of the most fabulous holidays of the year is fast approaching--that's right Galentine's Day! If you watch Parks and Rec then you know exactly what I'm talking about. If you don't watch it, you should fix that. Immediately.

Here are Leslie Knope's own words on the subject: What’s Galentine’s Day? Oh it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home and we just kick it breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus, frittatas!

I couldn't agree more and I will be celebrating this February 13th. Since I haven't managed to get my favorite girls mosaics portraits of themselves made from the crushed bottles of their favorite diet sodas, I made some little Galentine's cards to send instead and I thought I would share the love.

I uploaded full resolution versions so please download them for yourselves and e-mail them to your favorite gals or print them out on some card stock and mail them. Snail mail says love.

Happy Galentine's Day!

puzzled | 101 in 1001

Well, it looks like I crossed another item off my 101 in 1001 list. This weekend we finished a 1000 piece puzzle. It sounds so lame when I write it out but really I thoroughly enjoyed the endeavor. Sometimes when life is busy, you need something beautifully slow and methodical to slow it down. Something where every piece fits. It's nice. Also, red wine helps too.

Perusing my 101 list now and deciding what should come next, I love that it has already motivated me to do several out of the ordinary things.

no tv | 101 in 1001

I completed another item off of my 101 in 1001 list! We decided not to watch tv on weeknights in January. Evan and I had both decided that the decision to watch tv in the evening had become a bit too assumed in our house. Since Hadley has arrived, we tend to spend more nights at home and it just became the easy way to spend out time. So we took the month to revaluate and spend time doing other fun things. For the most part I really enjoyed the experience, aside from the week where Evan was out of town and I was home alone. Not so fun then.

These are the shows that made the cut:

Anything I'm missing out on? Truth be told I also watch Biggest Loser and Parenthood while I fold laundry, but never at night because Evan isn't a fan of either.

baby blues

Babysat for this guy the other day while his momma was at the dentist. It was cake, because he sat at the window almost the whole time talking to Molly dog. Had to take a quick shot of his beautiful blues. He is gonna be a heartbreaker.

sew awesome | 101 in 1001

I love lists, and goals, and lists. I had to mention it twice because of all the love. Writing things down pushes them to the front of my mind and makes me so much more likely to follow through with them. So naturally, I love new years resolutions and this year I made 101 of them.

I made my list at dayzeroroject.com  and let me just say that coming up with 101 things is very difficult. I have an array of cooking goals, travel goals, crafty goals and so on. I like the format though, because you have 1001 days for your list, which is almost 3 years so you can have longer term goals to work toward.

Anyways, I think I'll blog some of the goals that I complete. So here is the first:

I LEARNED HOW TO SEW

Last weekend, I took a sewing class at the Stitch Lab in downtown Austin with two friends. Four hours of learning and I came out with an honest-to-goodness bag (with a handle and a pocket and pleats!) that I made all myself. *proud*

When I got home, I dusted off my mom's old Singer and proudly placed it in my craft closet, pretty excited to sew some more stuff.

P.S. The sewing class was set up as a gift to one of my friends by her husband, and guys, it was a hit! Nice gift idea to keep in your back pocket. ;)
